Dysport® is a type of botulinum toxin that is used for the cosmetic treatment for moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows.
Like Botox®, the active ingredients in Dysport work by relaxing the muscles that create facial lines. A treatment corrects your forehead lines and frown lines for several months.
If You're Considering Dysport
Dysport is indicated for adults under 65 years old who are bothered by facial wrinkles and lines. Dysport can help you achieve a younger appearance by treating conditions like:
- Glabellar lines
- Crow's Feet
- Forehead lines
Therapeutic treatments for Dysport can also address muscle spasms and cervical dystonia. If you're considering Dysport, be sure to inform your surgeon if you have a known hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin preparation, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are allergic to cow’s milk protein.
What Happens During Dysport Treatment?
After the skin is cleansed with antiseptic and the injection sites are marked, a topical anesthetic or numbing cream may be used to help ease discomfort.
In our office, we administer the injection, placing the toxin into the muscles where it will block the chemical signals being sent from the nerves to the muscles. Larger muscles require higher doses. Treatment time for the procedure is estimated at about 15 minutes.
After Your Dysport Treatment
There is no downtime involved with Dysport injection. You should remain upright for six hours and avoid alcohol following the procedure. Results will begin to take effect within four to eight days and should last about four to six months.
Common side effects include swelling, pain at the injection site, bruising, headache and nausea. If any of your symptoms worsen, or if you notice any unusual symptoms, please seek help immediately.
